Urgent Prayer Request

Here is an update on grandpa...

Over the weekend, he wasn't responding and improving like he had been last week. The nurses at the OVM became concerned and yesterday, his doctor recommended that he be taken to the ER for a cat scan for a precaution to see what was going on. After several hours in the ER, they finally took him back for the cat scan. The doctors immediately came out and said they had a serious situation on their hands. He had bleeding on the brain and it wasn't looking good. They said if it continued bleeding, then he would 'bleed out' and not make it through the night. Our entire family rushed to University where he was air cared. As soon as they got there, they prepped him for surgery. They told him what was going to happen and he was able to comprehend what was about to happen. They were going to go in and remove part of his skull to relieve some of the swelling from the bleeding. After some more observation, they decided to wait and monitor how he was responding because of his heart. His heart is very weak and they didn't know what would happen if he underwent the surgery. They have him on coumadin to thin his blood for the heart, but that in return could make the bleeding worse. Fixing one problem just hurts the other. They decided to move him from the ER to ICU to monitor him and make the surgery the last option since it would be such an extensive surgery. Because his heart, he was moved to the CVICU (cardiovascular intensive care unit) about 3:00am.

As of this evening he remains in the CVICU and they believe the bleeding is not getting worse for them to do surgery, but that can all change in an instant. The miracle is that they believed he wouldn't make it through the night and he did. The concern for today were new 'tremors' that he is having. They started as some shakes and jitters, but have turned into more seizure like. He seems to be resting comfortably, but then about every 15 minutes, he has what we believe to be little seizures. I finally left the hospital at 7:00 this evening and they were waiting on the neurologist to come in and see what was going on with these episodes.

Please continue to pray for him. Also, please continue to pray for my mom, aunt, and grandma. We all stayed in the waiting room throughout last night and today, so we are going on little to no sleep. My mom and grandma are both sick, so grandma is wearing a mask to go back and mom didn't even get to go back and see him. They are running on empty and need strength to continue on. It has been a nonstop adventure since Nov 21st when he had the initial stroke.
